Being married to a male-identifying teacher and being around male instructors all day as a librarian made me think: Male teachers kinda get left out when it comes to gifting. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest, but most of them are geared towards female teachers. So, I thought to myself, “Self! We need a good reference for male teacher appreciation gifts!” Here are a few teacher appreciation gifts that folks of any gender will love.
Male Teacher Appreciation Gifts
1. Coffee Mug and coffee beans
If your teacher is a coffee lover, like mine is, then a give them the gift of fuel. The mug I created (above) by using a sharpie, a Dollar Store mug, and this tutorial. Then, I filled it with my husband/teacher’s favorite coffee. If you have a few extra bucks, you could also throw in some pastries or a gift card to a local coffee shop.
2. Supplies for their classroom
This is a no-brainer for teachers of any gender. Every teacher (and librarian) I’ve ever known would love to get a basket full of supplies, such as hand sanitizer, tissues and nice pens. Some teachers even have Amazon or Wal-Mart wishlists where you can view the supplies they need and buy off their lists. Teachers (and librarians) are underpaid and often have to buy supplies with their own money.
3. Gift Cards for male teacher appreciation gifts
If you don’t know what a teacher may appreciate, gift cards can be helpful. Some folks don’t like gift cards because they can seem impersonal, but I’d rather let the teacher pick out what they want. Maybe they need something odd that they didn’t put on their wish list. As an art teacher, my husband loved to get gift cards to Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Amazon is pretty universally helpful too! I also would love to get a grocery store gift card. Sometimes I want to buy snacks for the break room or mints for my desk.
4. Money for male teacher appreciation gifts
Ok, money may seem impersonal too, but teachers are underpaid. Money is always a welcome gift and can be used to buy much needed supplies or just help them get a snack on the way home after a hard day.
5. Your time shows your teachers appreciation
If you can’t afford a gift, but would still like to support a teacher, many of them would love to have your time. My husband would love to have a parent volunteer their time to help him clean his classroom. Art is messy!
